Did House Of The Dragon Stars Just Debunk A Gruesome Fan Theory About The Greens In Season 2?

house house game of thrones

House of the Dragon draws from Martin’s companion novel to the main series, Fire & Blood, which outlines the history of the Targaryen family. The show kicks off when a Targaryen king, Viserys, names an unexpected heir, a choice that eventually leads to civil war within the powerful family. Nearly two years after the first season premiere of the first Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon Season 2 is finally on the horizon for a summer premiere. For as violent as the first season was in setting up the Targaryen civil war, the Blacks vs. Greens dueling trailers are creating even higher stakes for the conflict in the Targaryen family tree. Readers of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood have a pretty good idea of just how bloody that conflict will get; as one of those readers, a recent funny video about Season 2 prompted me to wonder if the actors debunked a pretty gruesome fan theory early.

Heir

With the groundwork now laid, expect epic battles, especially between dragons on both sides of the Targaryen family. Season one opens with King Viserys struggling to name a successor for his seat on the Iron Throne. He didn’t have a male heir in line nor was he willing to hand the reigns over to his volatile brother, Daemon. After much deliberation, Viserys finally chose his daughter Rhaenyra in a desperate bid to keep the Targaryen rule intact.

Catch exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew breaking down the series' biggest moments and the process behind creating its memorable sets. The player will meet these and other characters during the game, but as far as we know, the original cast isn’t returning to voice their characters. Instead, the game will have a new voice cast who will try to sound similar to the HBO actors. House Arryn controls a very aptly named area in Westeros—the Vale of Arryn—which includes their castle of the Eyrie and the port city of Gulltown. It lies north of King's Landing, just to the east of the Riverlands, and is also home to the Mountains of the Moon, which are located on the west side of the region. The infamous moon door is located at the top of these very mountains within the High Hall of the Eyrie, which has seen many people propelled out of its mouth.

Thus, by the time of Robert's Rebellion, the Reach is the only region of Westeros which has noble Houses with rival claims to rule based on descent. The War of the Five Kings, along with the Last War, has seen changes amongst the Great Houses. House Baratheon is no longer the royal house, and two of it's branches have become extinct, House Tyrell is also extinct, and has been succeeded by Bronn's unnamed house.

The Targaryens keep a low profile and work on building their castle at Dragonstone. He and his sister-wives (yep, really), Rhaenys and Visenya, take a ride on their dragons and scout out all the kingdoms. Aegon decides that he wants to unite the warring groups of Westeros and rule it all because he can.

Ahead of the looming battle, Max is promoting season 2 of House of the Dragon with two trailers — one for each Targaryen side. The dueling teasers, as they’re so-called, showcase the rivalry between Team Green in support of Alicent and Team Black representing Queen Rhaenyra. With opposing claims for the Iron Throne and a slew of skirmishes already under their belt, the two Targaryen factions are on the brink of all-out war. We know the situation is bound to escalate from here because the upcoming conflict is known as The Dance of the Dragons in Game of Thrones. The first season of House of the Dragon introduced us to Westeros some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones took place.

He builds the big table with a map of Westeros that we see Daenerys use at Dragonstone in Game of Thrones. The 10-episode first season of “House of the Dragon” will debut on August 21 with weekly releases. While Season 2 of the “Thrones” prequel has not been officially confirmed, HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys told Variety that “it’s probably a pretty good bet” that the network will order a second season of the show. “Generally speaking, we usually let something air and see how it does, but obviously, we’ll make preparations ahead of time to make sure we’re ahead of the game,” he said. House Stark lays its claim in the North, particularly in its main castle at Winterfell, located way above King's Landing. Though the Wall isn't officially designated as the house's territory, it's basically implied that they rule that area, too.

The Great Houses[1] are the most powerful of the noble houses of the Seven Kingdoms. They exercise immense authority and power over their vassals and territories and are answerable only to the King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, with the exception of House Stark, which rules over an independent kingdom. However, given that at that time almost every castle in Westeros commanded a kingdom and almost every lord (great or not) called himself a king, it is unclear whether or not these houses should truly be called "Great". House Velaryon is a vassal family of the Targaryens that followed them from Valyria before its destruction.

Storyline

As a prequel, you can go into this having never seen a minute of Game of Thrones (though you can now catch up in 4K and HDR on HBO Max). But of course, half of the intrigue will come from seeing events that are referenced in dialogue or flashback from the main series. “House of the Dragon” stars Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower. Steve Toussaint plays “The Sea Snake,” Lord Corlys Velaryon, and Paddy Considine will play the powerful King Viserys I. Rounding out the cast is Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria. His daughter Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke, in the two different timelines) becomes Viserys’ second wife. Rhaenys comes to be known as “The Queen Who Never Was” by the time House of the Dragon begins.

Instead, the house moves around quite a bit, basically just following around Daenerys wherever she goes. First off, let's just take a minute to appreciate House Baratheon's logo; there's nothing better than a creepy-looking black stag with an eye that follows you around a litttttttle too closely. The most well-known members of House Lannister are Tywin, Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. Now, this gets complex because Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen are also part of House Baratheon as their father is (assumed to be) Robert Baratheon. However, it turns out that the three of them are actually children of Cersei and her twin brother, Jaime. The Lannisters are so wealthy due in part to their location on the west side of King's Landing, as silver and gold are widely available within the mountains in which they live around.

Without revealing too much about the events of season 2, know that Rhaenyra will be looking to exact revenge for her son’s death at the hands of Prince Aemond’s dragon, Vhagar. This will eventually unfold into a much larger battle, culminating in The Dance of the Dragons. The war will consume all of the Seven Kingdoms — major Westerosi houses will forge alliances with either Targaryen faction. Expect the return of houses like the Starks and Lannisters from Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones captivated audiences like almost no other TV series since the turn of the century, but its final season left us with a disappointing ending. Luckily, we only had to wait a couple of years before HBO would announce a prequel series titled House of the Dragon.
